Health and safety representatives training

If you are interested in becoming an OIR-approved provider of health and safety representative (HSR) training read our guideline. For the purposes of our approval process, the OIR may have regard to any approval of HSR training by other WHS regulators. Applications to become an approved provider of HSR training can be made via our online application portal.

Work health and safety entry permit holders

Work health and safety entry permit holders are union officials who have completed an approved training course and hold, or will hold, an entry permit under the Fair Work Act 2009.

Role of an entry permit holder

Under the OEI Act framework work health and safety entry permit holders can enter a related onshore premises during usual working hours to:

  • inquire into a suspected contravention of the OEI Act and the applied work health and safety provisions
  • inspect employee records or other documents relating to the suspected contravention held by another person
  • consult advise relevant workers on work health and safety matters.

How to apply for an entry permit

Applications for entry permits are made to Fair Work Commission not the OIR.
